Create an Animal
In science we have been studying animal habitats, environments, features, adaptations, and behaviors. As a 9 weeks project, you are going to create your own animal species from another planet. Not only will you be creating a new species, but you will also need to create the planet it lives on as well as the environment of that planet and the habitat your animal needs to survive. As you think about what to do for your project, think about these questions:
What is your animal’s home planet like?
What’s the weather like?
The land? The temperature?
For your animal, you need to make a 3D model
(something that we can hold and look at from all angles).
No drawings on notebook paper will be accepted. You can use clay, newspaper, construction paper, cardboard, Styrofoam, etc.; anything that will help you bring your animal to life! You may also bring in a model of its habitat and shelter but that is not required. Along with your animal, you will need to provide a poster board with the following information:
Please remember that your project needs to be kept neat and follows the guidelines above. Scores will be lowered for messy or incomplete projects. Give this 100% of your effort!
Student Check List
My project included:
A 3 dimensional model of my animal. (20 pts.)
2 paragraphs that described my animal, its environment, and how its body and
behaviors help it survive on its planet.
A drawing of its planet, food, habitat, and shelter.
A picture of my animal with its name (you can draw it or take a picture)
I answered the following questions about my
animal:
What does your animal look like?
What is your animal’s home planet like?
What’s the weather like?
The land? The temperature? What is your animal’s habitat like?
How does your animal survive in this environment? What parts of your animal’s body make it
able to live in this environment?
What is the name of your animal species and its planet?
What are your animal’s behaviors?
Does it lay eggs or does it have live births?
Does it have a pouch for the baby’s protection?
Does it have the same mate its whole life?
